Vatersay Beaches
There are five beaches of note on Vatersay, however, the two in the centre of the island are the most accessible. The Isle of Vatersay is really two large sections of island joined by a central area of dunes and machair. On either side of this area are the two largest beaches, Traigh Shiar, or west beach Location and Traigh a Bhaigh, or east beach Location. The word Traigh in Gaelic means beach and is pronounced tra.
The three other beaches are Bagh A'Deas in the south Location .
Taigh Sanna in the north east Location
One very nice beach, and more secluded, is found at the end of the road through Caolas called Traigh Bharlais.
Traigh Shiar,
or west beach Location
Is one of the most visited beaches and are accessed over the machair. The monument to the Annie Jane Disaster is also on the machair on the way to the beach and a car parking area is close by.
Traigh a Bhaigh, or East Beach
This extensive beach is accessed from either over the machair or from the village.
